In her life, Professor Smith has survived a terrorist bombing, breast cancer and riding her bicycle off a bridge. She might secretly be a cat. Which means she has a few lives remaining.

In her current life, Professor Smith is a senior advertising instructor for the Zimmerman School and has taught Advertising Creativity and Campaigns since joining the undergraduate faculty in the fall of 2011. She’s also taught Introduction to Advertising and Writing for the Mass Media.

While at USF, Professor Smith created a summer advertising study abroad course, “Advertising in Paris & the Cannes Lions Creative Festival.” In this program, 16 USF students attend the Cannes Lions Creative Festival, the most prestigious awards show in communications. They also travel to Paris to visit global ad agencies and meet the professionals who work there.

Deb also survived over 25 years of creative experience in the ad industry. She worked for 20 years at Saatchi & Saatchi Los Angeles as a writer and associate creative director on accounts such as Toyota, Yamaha Motors, Vons/Pavilions and Qantas Airlines. She also freelanced for J. Walter Thompson, CBS Entertainment, L.A. Gear Footwear and a Los Angeles-based non-profit organization for children,

She earned her M.A. in mass communications from Cal State Fullerton and has a B.A. in professional & creative writing from the University of Arkansas, Little Rock.
