Jeanette Abrahamsen is an instructor at the Zimmerman School of Advertising & Mass Communications. Abrahamsen began teaching Broadcast News classes as an adjunct in 2015. She has since taught TV News, Advanced Reporting, News Editing, Beginning Reporting and Florida Focus.
Abrahamsen earned her master's degree from the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg, in digital journalism and design in 2015. While working on her master's degree, she produced news in America's 11th largest media market at Tampa's NBC affiliate. From 2013 to 2016, Abrahamsen developed and launched five newscasts for WFLA and WTTA.
As an executive producer, Abrahamsen built a TV station from the ground-up for the San Diego Union-Tribune. She was then promoted to assistant news director. From 2012 to 2013, she launched and oversaw 13 news, entertainment and sports programs. Abrahamsen collaborated on a redesign of the U-T website to launch a live streaming player and new video programming.
Before that, Abrahamsen produced news at San Diego's ABC affiliate in America's 28th largest media market. She won an Emmy Award in 2010.
Abrahamsen is thrilled to be back at USF Tampa where she received her bachelor's degree in Broadcast News. Abrahamsen is passionate about innovation in digital media. She teaches students how to create multimedia content for web, social and broadcast platforms.
Abrahamsen works with Hashtag Our Stories, a solutions-based social media video publisher that gets 6 million views a day across Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook. She produces virtual tours and 360-degree photo shoots for USF’s Innovative Education. Abrahamsen partners with the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists to host career readiness and journalism workshops. She also collaborates with WUSF radio to produce Telling Tampa Bay Stories with Advanced Reporting students.
