Mass Communications Alumni 1960s

Ruth Duke Reader (1966) taught English and journalism at Hillsborough High School until she earned her master's degree and began a career as a guidance counselor. She retired in 1989.

Laura Mandell Zaidman (1966) retired in 2001 as Distinguished Professor of English at the University of South Carolina and lives in Columbia, S.C.

Gretchen A. Bush (1969) taught school for six years before joining the Clearwater public library staff.

Jacqueline L. Gillenwater (1969) has taught school and moved frequently. Today she volunteers her time in community service in Batavia, Ill.

Veda J. Martin (1969) is retired from the news department of WFLA television in Tampa.

Leslie A. Taylor (1969) is president of Leslie Taylor Associates, a legal, engineering and strategic consulting firm focusing on satellite communications, wireless communications and new technologies, in Washington, D. C. She earned her J.D. from George Washington University.

Tony Zappone (1969) was a reporter for the Tampa Tribune, the Tampa Times, WFLA television and radio, WTVT television and the Cable News Network before founding an advertising agency and becoming involved in Tampa area real estate investments and management. He was a founding staff member of USF's Oracle.
