Mass Communications Technology
Students use modern technology when they take mass communications courses.
Although regional campuses maintain computer laboratories for use by mass communications
students, the primary computer laboratories of the School of Mass Communications
are located on the first and third floors of the Communication and Information Sciences
Building on the Tampa campus.
Four laboratories with 47 Apple and Windows computers are located on the first floor
of the CIS Building.
The laboratory in CIS 1020 is for multimedia journalism classes and also is available
for open use by all currently enrolled mass communications majors. The laboratory
contains one Apple Power G4/D800 computer with an 80 gigabyte internal hard drive
and several external hard drives for digital video non-linear editing using Media
100 software. The laboratory also contains 11 Apple Intel iMac 1.86 and 2.0 dual
boot computers with CD and DVD publishing capabilities. Each iMac computer has a
250 gigabyte internal hard drive and a 17-inch monitor and is networked to a laser
printer. Each computer uses Microsoft Office 2004 or later software, as well as
recent versions of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, Macromedia DreamWeaver,
FireWorks and Flash, and Internet-related programs. Several iMac computers also
are equipped with Media 100 video editing software programs.

Intel iMac 1.86 dual boot computers with CD and DVD publishing capabilities and
four Power PC G3/266 computers. Each iMac computer has a 250 gigabyte internal hard
drive and a 20-inch monitor. Each G3 computer has a six gigabyte internal hard drive
and a 17-inch monitor and is connected to a 35mm Nikon Coolscan film scanner and
a photographic-quality color printer. Each computer uses recent versions of Adobe
Photoshop and Internet-related programs.
The laboratory in CIS 1048 is for design classes and contains 21 Apple Power PC
iMac 2.0 computers with CD and DVD publishing capabilities. Each computer has a

laser printers. Each computer uses Microsoft Office 2004 or later word processing
software, as well as recent versions of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator,
Macromedia DreamWeaver, FireWorks and Flash, QuarkXPress and Internet-related programs.
In addition, there is a four-terminal Windows-based writing laboratory in CIS 1010
for use by telecommunications students who produce a daily newscast. All computers
are networked to a printer. Each computer uses Microsoft Office 2004 or later word
processing software and recent versions of internet-related programs.
Three laboratories with 58 Apple and Windows computers are located on the third
floor of the CIS Building.
The laboratory in CIS 3012 is for use by all currently enrolled advertising sequence
students and contains 21 Dell Optiplex 2.4 Windows computers with CD and DVD publishing
capabilities. Each computer has a 250 gigabyte internal hard drive and a 20-inch
monitor and is networked to a laser printer. Each computer uses Microsoft Office
