Student Organizations
The School of Mass Communications hosts chapters of the Advertising Club (an affiliate of the American Advertising Federation), Kappa Tau Alpha (the national mass communications honorary society), the Public Relations Student Society of America, the Radio-Television News Directors Association and the Society of Professional Journalists.
Student organization offices are located on the third floor of the Communication and Information Sciences Building on the Tampa campus next to the school’s main office. Most mass communications student organizations post notices of meetings and activities on organization office doors.
Membership in a mass communications student organization offers multiple benefits. New members can benefit from meeting senior students majoring in mass communications. In addition, members regularly meet professional counterparts and tour Tampa Bay media organizations.
Prospective members do not have to be enrolled in mass communications sequences related to the organizations they seek to join. For example, advertising sequence students may elect to join the Radio-Television News Directors Association chapter and public relations sequence students may choose to join the Society of Professional Journalists chapter. In addition, prospective members may be majors in areas other than mass communications.
